I need help with a recipe for Mother's Day brunch. You game?
I need a REALLY GOOD recipe for BISCUITS. They can be fluffy, flaky, sweet, savory, buttermilk, yeast, whatever. They just have to be good with salted butter and/or jam and be borderline extraordinary :-) I'm not asking for too much am I?
I have a recipe for a basic buttermilk biscuits and it's good, but I want the best recipe you have in your little treasure chest. Please only submit recipes that are tried and true.
Can you help me out? Please! Lurkers, it's time for you to come out of the closet.
I'll reward you with a giveaway later in the week :-)

If you get a really good one, I hope you will share the recipe.
The one is use is just a basic out of the better homes & gardens cookbook, I too am waiting for a wonderful one! Now if it were scones...... :) :)
Cheesy Garlic Biscuits (Red Lobster's)
Preheat oven to 450. Combine 2 cups buttermilk baking mix (Bisquick) , 2/3 cup milk and 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese, until soft dough forms. Beat vigorously. Drop dough by heaping tablespoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake 8 - 10 minutes.

Combine 1/4 cup butter, melted and 1/2 tsp. garlic
powder. Brush over warm biscuits before removing from cookie sheet. Serve warm. Makes 10-12.
Hmmm, Red Lobsters biscuits! I hope you find a great biscuit recipe.
oh girl I have so many biscuit recipes I don't know which to send ya.
I don't have one! It's the ONE thing I don't have a good recipe for. Every biscuit I make more closely resembles a hockey puck than a biscuit.
Those cheddar biscuits though Michelle posted are delicious. I made them the other night and they were fantastic. Those are the only biscuits I can make.
I have some GREAT recipes for you my dear! Go to my blog, click on biscuits. My favorites are the drop biscuits, buttermilk biscuits, and Hell's Backbone biscuits. They are all a little different but all REALLY good! Let me know what you try!
I don't know about you, but I love Paula Deen, and she says the frozen Pillsbury buttermilk biscuits are as good as homemade. I don't know if I believe that 100%, but they sure are easy!
I wish I could help. If you get any good answers, let me know. Until then, I'm sticking with *gasp* Bisquick! ;P
The Cooks Illustrated Basic Buttermilk Drop Biscuits are my absolute favorite recipe. I'll look it up and email it to you.
Actually here's a link:

That is too funny... I swear the link Erin posted is the same one I have bookmarked. I was going to say I was breaking the rules because I hadn't tried it but they looked good.
Why is it that you know a good biscuit when you taste it but it is kind of hard to nail down exactly what I need in it. I know when they are bad though for sure
Mine are basic baking powder biscuits. They always turn out, no matter what variation I do (add herbs, add cheese, whatever). Just plain is just plain good for jams and honey and the like.
2 Cups Flour (white or whole wheat)
1 tbsp sugar
3 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup margarine
3/4 cup milk
Pre-heat oven to 450*
Mix all the dry ingredients together. Use a pastry cutter to add in the margarine until it's really nice a crumbly looking. Stir in the milk (dough will be quite sticky).
Flour a flat surface and kneed the dough until soft and workable (flour your hands really well too for this). Roll out about 1/2 inch thick. Use a circle cutter (I use one of my kids plastic cups, about 2'' in diameter) to cut out the biscuits. Place on non-stick sprayed sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes. I err on the side of less time to avoid burning and keep the baking sheet on a higher up rack. This recipe makes a dozen biscuits.
Have fun finding a treasure :o)
I second the Cooks' Illustrated recipe. It's the only one I use anymore.
2 cups flour (it calls for 1 cup cake flour, 1 cup all-purpose)
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. sugar (optional)
3/4 cup buttermilk
1 stick butter
Whisk the dry ingredients. Cut in the butter. Add the buttermilk. Turn out onto a floured surface. Cut into squares or circles. Bake at 425 for 8-10 minutes.
I hope I have it alright. I typed it fast from memory. :)
Hey, Monica! Sorry no recipe here! I've pretty much gotten over my yeast fear. Now it's just lack of time holding me up but I have off tomorrow, YAY!
Oh, BTW, I saw you won over at the Food Librarian. A mini tier cake pan set which is kinda funny seeing how you just purchased some mini pans.

Ingrid- Isn't it exciting? I can't wait to use them. The ones I won were 2, 3 and 4-inch pans. I bought 6-inch pans. Either way, I'm sure they'll be cute! I can't wait to get them.
I use the Cooks Illustrated quick and easy biscuits.. I cant wait to see which you choose..
