A few weeks ago I was on Lisa's blog, The Cutting Edge of Ordinary. It's a blog that I frequent but don't always comment on, but I enjoy her recipes and photography and it doesn't hurt she's got a cute little doggie named Moose- you know I have a soft spot for four-legged furry friends. Anyway, earlier in the month she was visited by the Fairy Hobmother. Ever heard of the Fairy Hobmother? I hadn't either until I stopped by her blog. The Fairy Hobmother grants wishes from ordinary hardworking people like you and me, and today is your chance to get a wish granted as well!
When it was my turn to make a wish, I selfishly wished for a healthy baby. Obviously I know that's something that can't be granted by the FH, so I asked that my wish be given to someone else. Just a couple days later, the Fairy Hobmother sent me an email and said that even if she couldn't make my wish come true, she was crossing her fingers for us. And that she still wanted to send me an Amazon gift certificate for me to spend on Baby Boy H, once he made his arrival. I really was taken aback by her generosity and graciously accepted her offer because I wanted to be able to do the same for one of you.
If you'd like a wish granted by The Fairy Hobmother, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post and make a wish. But please be reasonable, the FH is not Oprah and she will not be giving everyone in the audience a new car! She granted Lisa a new dutch oven because hers burned up and fellow friend and blogger, Girlichef, was granted a food processor after the motor went out on hers. Have you been wanting a new cookbook and didn't get it for your birthday? Or maybe you've had your eye on a new piece of cookware but can't justify the cost? Maybe you want new shelving for the family room to display your family photos and treasures on? Or perhaps you'd like to purchase a gift for someone else, but don't have the funds. Obviously your wish doesn't have to be kitchen related, just make a wish and see what happens. I will not be the one to choose the winner/winners. The Fairy Hobmother will read through the comments, select the winners and contact you via email if you win so be sure to leave your contact info, close your eyes and make a wish.
Now onto a quick blurb about this rustic apple pie. It's delicious. It's very simple. There are very few ingredients and don't need to own a pie plate to make it. There is something a little quirky about it though, as it calls for corn flakes in the filling along with the apples and cinnamon sugar. The cereal acts as a thickener and keeps the crust from getting soggy. I used premade refrigerated pie crusts but if you want to make your own, go right ahead. The whole idea is that you keep it simple and fuss free so you can hurry up and get to the pie- a la mode if you prefer. I liked it because I didn't even need a plate or fork to eat it. I just cut off a piece and ate it like a hand pie. I found it stayed fresh for a couple days, then on day three the crust got a little too soft for me. I chose to sprinkle mine with a little raw sugar before baking but you could easily add a maple glaze to it like Lisa did, if that floats your boat. If you have an apple pie lover like I do, then this is a MUST make!
Rustic Apple Pie adapted from The Cutting Edge Of Ordinary
Printer Friendly Version
Crust:
- 1 double pie crust (homemade or store bought)
- 1 teaspoon flour
- 1 1/2 cups corn flakes (don’t crush them!)
- 6 cups thinly sliced Granny Smith apples, about 5 medium
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (I used Sugar In The Raw)
Place one pie crust on a work surface and sprinkle with half a teaspoon of flour. Now rub the flour all over to coat the crust. Place the crust flour side down on an ungreased cookie sheet lined with parchment.
Sprinkle the corn flakes over the crust to within half an inch of the edge. Mound apple slices over cereal.
Combine the sugar & cinnamon in a bowl and then sprinkle over the apples. Brush the edge of the crust with the beaten egg.
Now take the other half of the crust and just slightly push the edges out with your fingers- you want it to be just about a half-inch bigger than the bottom crust.
Place the pie crust over the top of the crust on the cookie sheet. Fold the edge of the bottom crust over the top crust, pinch the edge to seal and flute.
Cut several slits into the top of the pie. Brush the pie with remaining beaten egg, then sprinkle the coarse sugar evenly over the crust.
Bake 45 to 55 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and apples are tender. Serve warm or at room temperature.
Happy pie eating and thank you Fairy Hobmother for making our wishes come true!

In early October I'll be visiting my dad in NH, and plan to fill my entire suitcase with apples from the orchard behind the house. I'll bookmark this recipe for then! I'm curious how it is with corn flakes, and looking forward to trying it out!
I would love/am saving up for one of those Cuisinart 5-in-1 Griddlers. My roommates had one, and it was super useful, but then they moved away=/
This is such a sweet thing to offer...!
I, too, am wishing for a healthy baby for you!
And a new oven - toaster, convection, whatever, because mine is dead, dead, dead.
The pie looks delicious! The cereal that acts as a thickener and keeps the crust from getting soggy is really interesting!
I have heard about the Fairy Hobmother. My teeny-tiny Oscar would love a grown-up food processor so it wouldn't have to do its processing in batches. I have been scouting garage sales but just haven't seen a food processor. : )
That pie looks yummy! I am wishing you a healthy baby boy as well.
My wish would be to have a cast iron skillet. I have wanted one for so long but still saving up for one. I want to make pineapple upside down cake & cornbread in it -- plus fry up some chicken fried steak & make gravy. :)
That pie is stunning! I hope your baby is as healthy as can be=)
Oops I forgot my wish! I have always wanted a Vitamix blender, but that's a pretty intense appliance! In its stead, a large cup food processor would be a dream come true!
I'm so glad to keep hearing from you as I know that things are going well for baby!
And my wish would be for Simply in Season. That cookbook is one of my favorites and my local library has one of the 2 copies the system has. Up until recently I was constantly checking it out and renewing it and it pretty lived at my house. However now, during the season I need it most someone else has requested and checked it out and I am so sad. It is a small thing, but I would be a very happy Mommy to have that book permanently living on my shelf :)
Thanks!
Heather
I too wish for a healthy baby for you!!
And,...... the FH sounds like my kind of gal! I would LOVE the the Breville Smart Oven Convection Toaster Oven...... it seems that would make my life so much easier and economical in the kitchen.
On a smaller scale..... would LOVE "The Perfect Scoop" cook book by David Lebovitz. It would make my life that much more yummy!
This recipe makes me wish fall was here! I'm praying for you and your baby.
I recently lost a lot of weight and I would love a New York and Co gift card so I can buy some new clothes for work.
My wish is for this baby to bring you great joy!
My birthday is next month, so I'll make this my early birthday wish. :) I am wishing for a happy and healthy birth day for your little mister, so he can see his wonderful mommy, who's been waiting for him to make his entry into this world. :)
Hugs to you, Monica. And please know that you are always in my thoughts and prayers. :) (((Hugs!)))
(P.S.) Forgot to mention that this apple pie looks so delicious! Apple pie is one of my all-time favorites. I cannot wait until it's apple season here so I can make this. I'm sure the texture from the cornflakes is going to be amazing. :)
Have not commented yet on your blog, but I have made several of your recipes - ALL delicious!
Of course as a parent of 2, I have been following the progress of your pregnancy and I can't wait to hear your reactions when you finally get to hold the son for whom you have waited so patiently and with such love! It will be a wonderful moment, and the first of hundreds....
And if you are talking to the FH, my kitchen is in dire need of a soy milk maker, as we are allergic to milk here - we go through gallons of commercial soy milk!
I was planning to bake pumpkin pie but looks it will be apple pie:))
I really wish I had a KitchenAid Stand mixer!!! They must be so practical.....
The first rustic thing I ever made was your Tomato tart...this pie looks wonderful!
My wish for your family is a healthy baby who likes to sleep at night!
For myself, I'd like a tablet PC so I can use it in the kitchen to look up your recipes instead of wasting paper by printing them out (then forgetting where I put them)!
I hear a Nook Color can do the same thing, too...and I could download entire cookbooks.
Oh how I too hope for you a healthy beautiful baby boy. My wish would be for my sister. She recently had to down size to a small apartment with her family. until they moved in she did not realize that the apartment had no dishwasher. So in an attempt to allow her boys to be responsible for their dishes that they don't want to wash she and I think it would be great to get four great settings of fiestaware in different colors. Then there would be no question of who's dish is sitting there, and if its not clean, well then you had better clean it if you would like a plate for the next meal! Sounds genius to me, simplistic and genius.
Thanks
I wish you a happy and healthy baby! That apple pie looks amazing!
The wish for myself would be a nice food scale. Another son of mine was just recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and it would be nice to be able to weigh their food when needed! -or a Rachel Ray dutch oven.
Ok the cornflakes in pie thing sounds pretty cool.
I am sure your little boy will be totally healthy. I have a baby and he is PERFECT but he had a hole in his heart that required open heart surgery.
Every baby out there is PERFECT in their own way.
If I could wish for anything material it would have to be an ice cream maker. I love making almost anything I can from scratch and we are an ice cream eating family. It's just NOT in the budget.
I love this apple pie! I want to go make it right this minute!!! But I don't have enough apples...boo!
A wish...well...I'd wish for a Kitchen Aid mixer but I feel that's unrealistic so...
I'd wish for a new food processor! Mine is a sad piece of machinery..it still works but I have to jam the end of a spoon into the locking switch with one hand and hold down the lid and turn the dial with the other in order to make it process! AGH! It's a disaster! Food flies out everywhere because the spout on the side has no cover! Every time I have to use it I say a prayer and close my eyes! I guess I'd wish for a maid to come clean up after the food processor too! Hahaha!
Wishing you a healthy baby. I wish from the HF simply her prayers for my son who will be on his way back to the Middle East for the fourth time, next year. We just had his engagement party Saturday a week past. He is my only child and while I couldn't be more proud of him, living in fear is a hard thing. It wasn't that long ago he was my baby boy!

Monica, I truly feel that my life has been very blessed. The kinds of "wishes" I have are big ones-- like new flooring for my house, new window dressings and a new car for Craig. But, you know what? They are just wishes. I'm truly content with what I have. What I truly wish for, is that you have a safe delivery of that baby boy who is waiting to meet his mom and dad. It's getting so close! What a nice idea to pay it forward to someone. Best of luck to the chosen winner!
Love you, girl!
I have to say, I have been reading your blog for about...4 years? I have always been in love with baking and you always have such yummy treats that are so easy to make, like this apple pie! My mom is known for "the best apple pie" and I'd love to put it against this for the fam to judge.
I also need to say, I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOUR NEW LITTLE BOY!! In a non creepy way, I think about your little family often and hope yall are doing well. This is the effect of reading your blog multiple times a day, which makes me feel like we are already friends haha. Hopefully now, I will participate more! :)
As for my wish....hmmm. I'd say some form of a mixer. I am in culinary school for pastry and baking and its slightly difficult to practice things at home with a bowl and wooden spoon! :)
Ps- Keep the baby updates coming! ;)
Apple pie...just the mention of it conjures thoughts of cooler weather! It looks like a great recipe!
My wish for the FH may seem a little random. We need a back-up system for the sump pump in our crawl space. Our basement flooded in March due to a failure of the sump pump (there was an extended power outage and torrential rain at the same time). We just can't bring ourselves to fully repair the damage until we know that there's a system in place to prevent the same thing from happening again.
I love how easy this is! Great recipe. It sounds awesome,
I love tried and true recipes with a twist (like cornflakes)...what fun!! Hey Monica, it's almost September and you know what that means.....better get those baby toe kissing talents ready!!! I've never heard of FH either, how generous is that!?! I'd love to have a good dutch oven, I'm 61 years old and I've NEVER had one!!
-Awwww...I sent a prayer up for your Lil Boy to be healthy and I know God answers prayers.
It's such a blessing to have such generous people in the world with the news full of nothing but gloom & doom....Thank y'all so much for this generous contest, no matter WHO wins!!!
I have an apple tree in my backyard and this recipe is perfect for using up some off those apples!! Apple-Pie....It reminds me of home!!
I recently moved to England to help my hubby with his mom-who has some serious medical problems. We had to leave almost everything behind- we brought a few precious pictures, two suitcases, and my grandmothers Cast iron skillet with us.
I do practically all the cooking here- and my wish would be either for a new set of T-Fal cookware-(her pots & pans are in TERRIBLE condition) or a stand mixer as I'm baking special occasion cakes as a sideline til hubby and/or I can get a proper full-time job and a stand mixer would be such a time-saving(and ARM-saving) blessing!!!
Live, Love, Laugh!!!
And please-please, Fairy Hobmother- Please give Kerri a cast iron skillet- I don't know HOW anyone cooks without one!!!!!! xxx
Hi! I am in Australia and I have been reading through your blog for a couple of weeks now, and funnily enough have only now found out the date!!! I was thinking that these were all archived and that you had had your little man. I had been trying to find the welcome post!! I am glad to see that you haven't as yet as the bubba and I get to wait in anticipation for the news of your arrival. My sweet stepdaughter is due on the 1st of September so maybe you guys will have your babies on the same day! :-)
Anyways, I hope everything goes extraordinarily well and your healthy gorgeous little man comes easily! I LOVE the smell of new babies too!!
Best of luck Monica!!!
Since I am in Australia I am guessing FH won't deliver here so instead I am sending a wish for a beautiful little man your way!!!
Wow...this pie looks yummy! I don't know how you keep coming up with all these amazing recipies, but I hope it never stops! You should see how long my baking "to do" list is now... ;-)
I am hoping and praying for your family, and just can't wait to see pictures of your sweet little bundle of joy. You will be amazed at the overwhelming feelings you experience when he arrives! Such a blessing...
As for my wish for FH...As a suddenly single mom of three, (3, 5, & 13) I have had to take over all duties of the household...inside and out. My oldest and I work together to care for the yard, but our mower decided to quit a while back. We are blessed with wonderful neighbors who help us anytime we need anything...including letting us borrow their lawn mower. My wish would have to be a new mower for them for being so helpful...then we could buy their old one! :-D
Monica, I'm so happy the FH visited you! She's great huh? Thanks for making the pie too. It's so easy and so good!
Can't wait to hear of your little boys arrival. Best of luck! Lisa
I too, join in the well wishes for a healthy baby.
I cannot wait for the local places to open for apple picking.
My want would be for a pressure cooker so I can can food and drop my grocery list to within affordable ranges. I can what I am able to in a water bath, but a pressure canner would open up so many more foods.
My real wish is for more funding at the library where I work, because we're hurting. But I know that isn't possible. I wanted to throw the plug out there though, because I know lots of people read these comments, and if you have a local library please support it- even if you don't use it (though you should!).
Monica: I've thought about what I'd like. A nice crock pot/slow cooker came to mind. Then I thought about so many people in Hurricane Irene's path that will need so much. If I win, perhaps my prize could go to one of them.
Every time I check my blog friends, I expect to see that the little one is here. Hoping that all goes well for both of you.
Best,
Bonnie
Monica I also wish for you to have a healthy and happy little baby boy bundle!!! Can't wait for the post that announces his arrival! That pie looks delicious and since I am one for loving to try different types of recipes, this is one I am most definitely making once apples season starts here.
My wish would be for a dutch oven for my daughter law who comes from Indonesia. I have her to thank for my renewed interest in cooking and starting my blogs years back!!!
That pie looks wonderful. My wish for you is that your son arrives healthy and everything goes smoothly.
I would love a dutch oven for my wonderful friend, she can't afford one and while I would love to gift her with one I can't do that right now either.
I agree with all the other lovely comments here....my number one wish is for you to have that precious, healthy baby! That would be the best gift of all! As for my FH wish, I am a stay at home mom of four kids. It's tough to find a job that will accomodate the hours that my family needs me at home so instead I run a small cooking business out of my house to help contribute to the family income. My number one go to item that I use every day is my electric skillet and it has seen better days. I would wish for a replacement for that!
I wish for a healthy baby for you, too! I can't wait to "meet" him.
I wish for a gift card for a new vacuum. I've been saving for one ever since my son stuck a ball in our house vacuum system and stopped it up. Too expensive to fix! Our hand-me-down was a nice gesture, but with little kids I need something with some power!
boy I should have looked here yesterday. This recipe looks much yummier than the recipe I made yesterday.
with all the wishes and prayers your lil man is going to be perfect. Can't wait to see the things you come up with for his birthdays!
If FH would grant a wish for me I'd wish for a Maslin jelly pot. sigh....
thanks for all the great stories, recipes and tips. My favorite food blog.
I wish I had time to make your apple pie. It looks DELICIOUS.
My mother passed away a couple of months ago. She was 81 and lived through the depression, therefore she did not EVER throw anything away. I work at our local school, so after school, I have been trying to clean out Mom's house and fix it up to sell. I really could use some help, but beyond that, I need cleaning supplies and big garbage bags---- something really heavy duty..... plus, I need time---- really I do. stillfantastic@gmail.com
This apple pie looks fantastic! xxx
I have been following your blog for a long time now and have enjoyed it so much! My daughter is also pregnant right now and due in just a few weeks so I know all too well the excitement and anxiety you are feeling. I am praying for both of you. My most sincere prayer is that you both be blessed with with healthy babies!
As for the Fairy Hobmother wish..I am an Elementary School Nurse who watches the fantastic teachers at my school struggle to find the funds they need for supplies and enrichment activities for their classrooms. One teacher in particular could use some funds for her very special classroom. She teachers a group of children with Autism. Their needs are great and different. I wold love to be able to give my gift to her. (Dr. Susan Williams, Rock Hill, SC)
That Apple Pie looks awesome! I have a 15 yo daughter who is an aspiring chef and loves to make pies. I'll share this recipe with her.
Wow. I've never heard of the FH, but what an awesome lady she must be! I'd love to be in position one day to do the same thing. How thoughtful and generous!
As I have been making smoothies lately, I've realized my poor old blender is on it's last legs. A new blender with a glass pitcher would be awesome! :)
I am so happy that the Fairy Hobmother has crossed the "big pond" and is granting wishes left and right. Summer is almost over and we are beginning to "nest" for the winter. Comforting dishes like Belgian waffles come to mind. I made them once but borrowed a waffle maker.
Yesterday I really truly almost killed my husband by doing something thoughtless. I hurt him, smashed the front of his dodge ram truck, pretty much flattened our riding law mower, both of which ran into his work trailer, and to top it all off, these all pushed up against the front of our garage! He could have been killed, and we are so thankful that he was able to leap out of the way with only a bruised leg! We are thankful also that our 6 small children were at Grandma's house. I'm not asking for a replacement of any of these things. Our anniversary is Oct 5th, and I had hoped to give him a gift card to the brand new Bass Pro Shop that is opening near by. Needless to say though, we will now be spending our money to fix the mess I've made. So I'm wishing for a gift card to Bass Pro, to give my husband. adamtiffany1@yahoo.com
This pie looks so interesting! I will have to try it next month. I have never heard of this Fairy Hobmother, but am intrigued! My little sister has wanted a red Kitchenaid mixer for a while and I would love to be able to give it to her! If anyone deserves a wish come true, it would be my sweet sister. lauwil07 at gmail dot com
My real wish is for your son to be healthy and here soon so we can see pics!
My frivolous wish would be for an automatic wine bottle opener (the CT makes it hard on my hands)
But there are many more comments that come as real needs-I hope they get chosen.
My Mom used to make the Mock Apple pie out of Ritz crackers, but never saw anything like cereal in the filling-interesting! And I have a pile of apples on my counter from our tree. Never cooked with them but am going to attempt it :)
I have been keeping track of the growth of Little Mister, too, and am so anxious to meet him. It is going to be one of the most wonderful events in your house. I love your recipes and always get excited when I see your name in my e-mails. I am anxious to try this pie, as it's one of my hubby's favorites. (Well apple, not this one itself). So many worthy wishes and hopes are here. I would like an ice-cream maker for my Kitchen Aid mixer but have been wishing for a long time, so others needs can come first. Anxious to see this beautiful baby. Blessings, Lynn chalicewitch@hotmail.com
Prayers to you for a happy, healthy baby. I am so blessed that my wish is to give your gift to someone else, whatever, whoever it may be. Love your recipes.
This looks delicious. Interesting with the addition of corn flakes. I would love to try it.
There are so many things I would love from the Fairy Hobmother...an ice cream maker would be awesome:)
Along with everyone else, my first wish is for you to have a healthy baby. My second wish is for a donation to Jennifer Perillo (of "In Jennie's Kitchen" blog) who just lost her husband. I believe the website for information about donations is http://www.bloggerswoborders.org/2011/08/project-summary-a-fund-for-jennie/
Anxious to hear the good news on Sept 1!
YUM, I can't wait until fall is in full steam, I can't wait to try this yummy recipe!!
I don't know you, only through your blog, but you seem like the kindest and most giving person and your little guy is one lucky baby! I wish you a happy, healthy baby that sleeps and a very safe and fast delivery/recovery!
If I could make one wish for the Fairy Hobmother, it would be this: After I had my son, I found out that I had 3 herniated discs in my back. I couldn't be a mom and that plus just delivering I became very depressed and gained a lot of weight. I would love to be able to afford some help with my weight loss so that I can be a good example to my son and hopefully have another child soon! Thank you!
Can't wait for you to hold your baby boy in your arms. Not sure if I've ever commented on your blog but getting a wish granted seems pretty great to me.
I would love a new toaster oven as our current one's door is broken. I use it every day but I am sure it's not working right with the door hanging off halfway.
Monica your pictures are divine!!
Oh my goodness, this pie looks mouthwatering. I love the rustic-look, so homey and comforting. Congrats on your visit from one of the wonderful Fairy Blog Mother's flitting around spreading joy out there (and thanks for the link love)...I can't wait to "meet" baby. Getting antsy ;)
So looking forward to hearing of your joys with your new little one. We really don't need anything so I echo the sentiment of the FH granting the wish of someone else on the list-we'll celebrate the luck of one of your commenters with some root beer floats!
And, I have to add, I liked the idea of giving a cake to your doctor. Reminded me of Keri Russell in the movie with all the pies.
Gorgeous pie Monica! It gives me hope that the season change soon to come to New England will hold lots of wonderful moments...and yummy food like this apple pie! - I will definitely be making it. It was also fun to discover a fellow New England food blogger through this recipe. Thank you!
LOVE the idea of a Fairy Hobmother! VERY cool. :-)
I too had an up and down pregnancy that resulted in an amazing little boy. You will be in heaven when he finally makes his entrance in to the world!
Unfortunately our medical issues did not stop with my little guy's birth. He is finally thriving, and we are so excited and blessed by every healthy day that we have with him.
My wish for FH would be for a dozen or so picture frames of various sizes. In our effort to savor our little one's very special moments, we take a lot of pictures. I would love to be able to show the pictures off in great frames.
Looking forward to hearing all about your little man's entrance in to the world!

omg that pie!??!?! I want it now!
I am late to the party on this, but I recently decided that a Zoku popsicle maker would be a great thing to own. My son (5 yrs) doesn't eat much, so I am trying to cook with him more and more. This would be just another way to get him in the kitchen and excited about food and flavor. It is now on my holiday list, but since it is still 105 here almost daily, getting one early would indeed have to be the work of a fairy godmother!
I will try this recipe for sure.
If I could have a wish granted it would be for a new blender that can double as a smoothie maker. I have had guardianship of my two grand-daughters for about a year now ages 3 and 18 mos. The 3 year old was surviving on a steady diet of cheetos and other junk food before we took over her care. I have been struggling to get her to eat healthy. My blender just quit on me and finances are a little tight as we await the States assistance to get the parents to start financially supporting the girls.
Best wishes Monica on the arrival of your sweet baby boy.
Monica it has been forever since I stopped by and oh boy, congratulations on your impending bundle of joy!!! I am thrilled for you!!!! I love apple pie and it is on my to do/to make/to try list. But I am going to try this recipe out, I love cornflakes and I am totally intrigued by this recipe.
If I could have a wish it would be for a scholarship to help me go back to school. It would be a huge help but it is also a HUGE wish.,
I'd love a wish from the FH! I wish for a new food processor because I killed mine making baby food and have not had the extra money to replace it as of yet. :)
ooooh. I don't mean to jump right into the asking, but hey that's how I pray too:) I would LOVE ANY attatchment for our kitchen aid! My husband and I got one last year for our birthdays/ christmas presents from my parents and have been drooling over attatchments:) Thank YOu FH. BTW good luck on the baby!!!
I just stumbled upon your blog and I can't wait to try some of your recipes. this apple pie looks delicious!
I also wish for your baby boy to be healthy!
My wish for me would be for a dutch oven. I've been eyeing them for a long time but just have never been able to justify the expense.
Of course we are all keeping everything crossed... fingers, toes and even eyes for a healthy, happy baby boy!
I would love to get my Mom a nice pot and pan set. Even just one pot or pan. She sent my brother to school with all but one pot. She's been debating on what kind to buy and is afraid to spend the money so I'd love to get her at least one so she can just relax and cook!
Yum. I will have to try this pie, and if it works, my husband will send you all the thanks in the world, as mine never turn out right!
For my fairy wish, I would love a KitchenAid stand mixer. I finally bought my mom one for Christmas last year (she's wanted one forever!), but I'm still using my sad cheapo handheld mixer.
Prayers and Blessings to you and baby (and hubby too)!
I'm so in the mood for apple pie after reading your post!! And with the weather already cooling off (to my dislike) and the recipe NOT calling for a pie pan - this is just perfect!!!
Speaking of which, a pie pan is something that I've been wanting for years, but was never able to justify because I don't really make too many .... (but dear fairy, isn't that what a wish is for...?)
Good luck to you and your baby!!
Every year as Fall approaches I look out my kitchen window at the 2 apple trees in my back yard and think, "This year I'm going to make pie with apples from my own trees!" We've been in our house for 6 years now and I still have never made an apple pie. (Shameful, I know!) This recipe has inspired me...THIS is the year! :)
Thank you for sharing all your fabulous creations, and for including all of us out here in cyberspace in your beautiful life. Many, many warm wishes for a healthy baby. I believe with all my heart that wishes can, and do, come true.
That being said, thank you for the opprotunity to say 'out loud' a few of the more trivial wishes some of have. One of mine is for a Nikon D3100 14.2 Megapixel digital camera. Last year my 3 girls were playing in the sprinklers and I decided to take some pictures. After a fun afternoon, we went in the house, and I totally forgot about my camera, still in the cup holder of the camp chair I was sitting in ealier that day. Our 2 year old Weimaraner, Zeke, found it and thought it would make a great chew toy! By the time I remembered I had left it outside, there was hardly anything left of my little camera. Miraculously, the memory card was ok and I was able to get it out of the mangled camera. I bought a cheap little camera on clearance at WalMart for $60ish and have been dreaming of one day owning a really nice camera with next-to-nothing shutter delay so I can catch every smile, soccer goal, pirouette, etc my girls dish up!
A high-perfoming camera is even more important to me now that our 3 little girls have turned into FOUR little girls as of this past March...we had an 'accidental' pregnancy and have never felt more blessed.
I don't know if my wish is pricier than what the Fairy Hobmother is capable of granting. If so, I'll just keep wishing and saving until someday, hopefully, I can try to make my own wish come true!
Thank you!!!
My wish will be for you to safely welcome your little bundle of joy when the time is right!
and a chef's pan for me! (the one that you use on stovetop and followed through in the oven)....
Good luck with your sweet baby! I have three little girls and would love a baby bullet for my 4 month old baby who will soon be starting solid food. I would love to make homemade baby food for her! Thank you FH!
My wish is for you and Mr. H to have a healthy and happy little one! Little one is going to have an opportunity to share all your wonderful creations! What a joy it's going to be having a mom whose so loving and creative! Your home is going to be the home all the neighboring kids come to for delicious treats! P.S. I enjoy reading Lick the Bowl Good, it makes me happy. The recipes and photos are wonderful! I also enjoy reading the comments. Sometimes, I visit some of the blogs of those you have listed as favorites and those who leave comments.
My daughter is pregnant too and I hope you both have healthy, happy babies! We have to move due to wage cuts at work. I'm going from a top of the line kitchen to a
1940's postage stamp size kitchen with no dishwasher or microwave. I wish for a small microwave. It's something I don't want to be without. Love your blog!

I, too, wish you for a healthy baby boy and lots of joy for you and your hubby.
And a new kitchenaide mixer for me ... I love to bake, but my mixer has "bit the dust".
I would love a gift card from Amazon for my husband's birthday. He works so hard for me and our 3 children and never puts himself first. I was diagnosed with breast cancer several years ago and he was with me every step of the way. He is so kind, supportive and funny and I would love to surprise him on his birthday.
Monica, keep checking and checking for baby news. I am so excited and happy for you.

I have been saving for a food processor for about a year...I live with my parents and do the majority of the cooking in addition to raising my daughter and working full time. I generally use my hour-long lunch (I work at home) to either make dinner or start the preparations so that I am free to help with various practices and after school activities at my daughter's school. having a food processor would be a real time saver as well as finally try some of those recipes that seem too complicated without the assistance of a food processor. Thanks and thinking good thoughts for you and your baby!
What a great blog you have! I just discovered it last week, browsing through links from another food blog.
I have a 7 month old grandson who I have had guardianship of for the last 4 months. I'd like to make his baby food from fresh ingredients--are you planning to make baby food, and if so, will you be publishing recipes? (Not that I don't love pie, cake, cookies, etc. and I'm sure he will someday, too).
If the Fairy Hobmother has one lying around, I'd like some sort of blender/food processor to puree fruits and vegetables for him. I've never really had a need for one before, so I don't own anything, and I've tried the mixer but it works better on some things than others.
Best of luck with your baby, and I hope you still have time to blog when s/he gets here! I love your recipes!
I am saving up for a new fridge and stove, thank heavens they are not totally out yet, but my days are numbered! Oven's gone, but cooktop works, so there's no money for much banking supplies, athing would be welcome, ingreiends, spices, containers, so I can look forward to the holiday baking season!
First, I wish you a fast, easy, uneventful delivery and a very healthy little boy! Second, I SO want to make this pie!
As for a wish, I feel a bit bad making one. In the scheme of things, we're doing fine. Money's tight because we were stupid for a while and spent above our means. Now we are making a serious effort to pay down what we owe. We're doing well so far.
I would wish for a gift card to somewhere useful, Publix, Target, places where you can get the essentials. For something frivolous, how about one of those apple peeler/corer things so I can make the pie! (my e-mail is cla517@yahoo.com, just in case)
What a neat idea - to pass it on to someone else! I always believe that with my volunteer work, but kitchen appliances work too. I'd love to have a cast iron skillet like the one my Mama always uses.
i would wish for a cutting board as mine is a decade old and/or a simple set of mixing bowls as my smaller ones have broken. i simply don't have the money to replace these items now as i need to move out of my present living situation.

This looks so yummy! Glad to hear all is well with you and the little one.
My wish is for a dutch oven with lid. I have wanted one for a while but never had the money to splurge on one. I have even looked for a used one but didn't follow thru.
My wish is for new shoes for my kids. School will be starting in just a few days, and we are unable
to purchase new shoes for them. There great kids and haven't complaned about it. But I know they
would love new shoes.
First of all....I'm wishing and praying for an absolutely perfect baby boy for you...
For myself, I'm wishing for baby stuff! Me and my husband have two sons, 10 and 5 yrs old. We were saving up for a vascectomy when we were surprised with baby number 3! While this little one wasn't planned, we already love and can't wait for him/her to come in February. We live in a 2 bedroom home so the baby will share a room with my husband and I and since we thought we were done having children we got rid of everything! Really and truly anything would be greatly appreciated!

I definitely have to try that pie! It looks yummy!
Wow, I have never heard of the Fairy Hobmother, but she sounds awesome!
I wish for an Amazon or Barnes & Noble giftcard because I would love to get some new books.

My wish is for you to have a healthy baby too - and I know that wish is coming true THIS WEEK!
My other wish is for a juicer! I would love to have a juicer by Breville so that I could juice my meals and get myself back on track in terms of my weight loss and healthy/ier eating!
Take care of yourself and do let me know when Baby H makes his grand entrance!
Sorry... Did not leave contact information and I wanted to tell you!! My wish to see our wonderful son and Army Ranger graduate from Ranger school this weekend came true! But still, a Breville juicer would MAKE MY DAY!
My contact information is: jcbridge@aol.com and my blog is: www.thearmymom.com
Love you!
Thank you for this recipe....I will be making it tomorrow night :) I need some apples or we would be eating it right now!
I have never heard of this Fairy and am now impressed beyond words. I would love for the Fairy to bring me a real food processor. I have a tiny one that really can't be called a food processor, since it barely chops/grinds. But it makes due for me until I can buy a real one!
I have followed you on your pregnancy for a while now and wish you a healthy little boy. As someone who has struggled and failed to carry a pregnancy to term I felt your pain and understand the terror and triumph of making it one more day. I am thrilled that you have gotten this far and know that when you look into your sons eyes for the first time it will all have been worth it and you will truly understand what a miracle it is!
My wish unfortunately is too much to ask. I wish I was in your shoes, about to finally meet the baby I have dreamt and yearned for for years! Cherish your son!

So happy to hear that things are going well. I may not stop in and comment a lot but I always love looking at your mighty good looking food. I am definitely thinking of you and hope all goes well. I love the smell of babies. I miss my kids being babies, such magic.
As usual all of your food looks incredible.
I can't wait to meet your little man! I love everything you bake!
My wish would be to recognize a co-worker with a gift card. She is working 2 jobs, raising two well-rounded boys (13 & 16). Her husband is very involved with their Scouts and sports. She could use a gas card or one for clothes for her growing boys.
I would love a Le Crueset type dutch oven - doesn't have to be name brand, but it must have a smooth, flat bottom - for my smooth top range. I would love red, but any color is great. I have so enjoyed hearing about your pregnancy. I cook from your site more than any other (this is true) and gasped like you were one of my own children when I realized a baby was on the way! God Bless!
Love this version of an apple pie. I can't wait to make it :D
My son will be moving into his own apartment in a couple of months. I'd like to be able to help him with a starter set of pots.
I wish for a new food processor. Last time I made (or at least tried to make) a carrot cake, I made a terrible operator error and managed to ruin my Cuisinart with carrots jammed in it. After hours of me, my hubby, and Dad trying to pry the top off, I just got too frustrated and canned it. I beleive it was only the second time I ever used it. :( I haven't been able to justify spending the money on a new one because of my careless mistake.
Oh I so hope the baby and you are safe and healthy. I love the apple pie recipe and will try it out.
My wish is for a food processor. I've never had one buy would really enjoy it.
Thanks,
Meemaw
Monica I think you would be surprised at how many people are wishing you nothing but a healthy baby and healthy pregnancy and think of you often!
If I could have one wish it would be for my Mom. She lost her job awhile back and is struggling to find a new one. If I had the money I would send her on a mini shopping spree to get a new outfit to wear to her interviews to boost her confidence!
I can't believe it is apple pie time already!
I am wishing for a kitchenaid mixer, mine no longer works. I have had it for over 10 years and before that it was owned by an old boyfriend's grandmother. Thinking about all the thing this wonderful mixer has made over the years is amazing!
My wish for you today is a healthy baby boy! I have loved reading your blog and following your journey. You are an amazing woman and a blessing to others.
Thank you for sharing your life with us :)
My wish for me is a new blog design and logo. I am tired of the generic look and want it to reflect me more. I do not have any sort of computer skills to do this myself and with my husband getting laid off, I can't justify spending any money on wants or wishes right now.
Btw, the apple pie looks awesome. I am curious as to how the corn flakes contribute to the texture. I may have to try this one :)
I read your blog every time I'm craving something sweet -- your ultra yummy photos almost always give me a needed "sugar fix" without the calories!
Wishing you first of all, an amazing day of enjoying your sweet, new son!
I've got a couple of things on my wish list, but I'll go with the most practical one: a large roasting pan with rack, big enough to roast a turkey. This is something I've never owned and I'd love to learn how to properly and successfully roast a turkey for holiday meals with the family instead of always being assigned a side dish!!
I've been lurking for awhile,but, haven't commented.
I'd love to get a nice crock pot, one that I can set to come on at a certain time and one that I can take to work for office parties. All the ones that I have had fizzle out quickly.
I have MS, a very active toddler, and a hubby who's trying to avoid my health issues. I would really like something that we can do as a family-even with my fatigue (we love to hike but I can only do short short walks now). Plus we're desperately trying for another baby (I can't start my meds while pregnant or trying so hopefully it'll happen really quickly). Add in money problems and it's stressful. I would really like something that we can do to strengthen our family bond--to remind us of how lucky we are and that God is out there.
Wow! This pie is so interesting...and pretty!! Great job!
I think if I were to wish for something it would be that my husband come home to us safely from Afghanistan. Or that my clumsiness doesn't get any worse than this freaking sprained ankle I have. Or hey, how about a live in nanny to help with the 4 year old and 5 week old while I'm laid up with said sprained ankle, splint and crutches. Boo! Or hey...a cookbook would be nice too! LOL!! I'm currently eyeing The Flavor Bible, Sky High Cakes and The Bread Baker's Apprentice. ;-)
I stumbled upon this blog while searching for the nutella and fererro rocher cupcake recipe after a friend showed me a far from reliable video on youtube and told me she was going to try that as her first baking attempt. I ran a search and struck a gold mine!
I have been browsing your recipes all day long, delighted with the little insights you share with us, Monica! Also, congratulations on the delivery of your son, I'm sure he's a delightful little boy :)
Coming from a family of 7 has given me the privilege of learning to bake - I started when I was 12 (that was when I baked my first cake all by myself) and haven't stopped since. Being away from home (studying overseas), there are two reasons I bake. One, my comfort is in the kitchen. No, not the food, but creating the food. It's my coping mechanism (hand whisking meringue is one of the best ways to release pent up frustration, so I've discovered). My second reason is that I enjoy simply watching the people around me savour my bakes.
I am currently restricted to recipes that don't require an electric mixer, save the times when I have access to one (which is very rare), or that I have enough energy in me to hand whisk meringue.
Fairy Hobmother, I know this wish came late, but I desire a Kenwood Major Premier to call my own. With my aunt's machine, I was able to create my elder sister's wedding cake and her cupcakes and the rest of what made up her wedding dessert table. My mother's basic Kenwood stand mixer has lasted her over 20 years and I would very much like to have a mixer of my own, and a story to tell my kids one day!
I can be contacted at chara.teh@gmail.com
My eyes are closed, fingers crossed!
Congrats and I hope you get a healthy baby too!
We just went apple picking this weekend, so I'm glad I found this recipe, it seems pretty easy to make. If I succeed I hope to make dessert for Thanksgiving this year (I'm not that great of a cook lol).
So my wish is that I get one of those travel cake/pie containers so I can carry my beautiful holiday desserts in.
