Buttermilk Biscuits and A Giveaway!

Thank you for all the biscuit recipe suggestions. I spent the day making biscuits. I decided to go with a "plain" biscuit instead of something more savory. Michelle submitted a recipe for Cheesy Garlic Biscuits. I did not make them today, but I have made them before and they are delicious.

About 4 others recommended I try Cook's Illustrated Drop Biscuits. Kristen posted her Baking Powder biscuits in the comment section, but it was very similar to CI's recipe with the exception of butter/margarine and milk/buttermilk.

Also, Maria said she had a few really good ones so I headed to her blog to check them out. She wasn't kidding. Through her blog I found a couple others. So, I decided to make a drop biscuit, a fluffy buttermilk and a flaky buttermilk biscuit. I'll tempt you with a picture of my baked goods, but I'll post the recipes later.

And as promised I have a giveaway for you! This may be my first giveaway on this blog, I'm not sure because I've given things away to bloggers in the past and on my other blog....hmmm. Anyway, this is what I have for you:

Baking Liners!!!

In order to enter just leave me a comment on this post and 1). Tell me what you're making for Mother's Day and 2). Tell me what you plan on baking in these baking liners. You have until Sunday, April 26th at midnight Central Time to enter.

There will be 2 winners- your name will be chosen out of a hat by my hubby. Both people will get all 5 designs of baking cups- (50 of each design, a total of 250 liners). I'll reveal the winners on Monday. Good luck!

  1. Those look yummy-I'm imagining them smeared with butter and jam.....

Unfortunately it is our weekend to work on Mother's Day-also prom weekend here, so we have to take a little vacay time to hit Grand March. I guess I will be packing the lunch box with something-maybe some salad, rolls and a dessert to share with other mom's at work.

  2. Duh, forgot second half of question. I found some brownie cheesecake muffins that would be killer-and look great in those liners :)

  3. Hi, I recently stumbled onto your blog and I really enjoy it :)

    1) When I'm with my mother on Mother's Day I usually make her some kind of pancakes. One time I made peach pancakes with homemade peach puree in the batter. And another time I made lemon-berry pancakes.

    2) Those baking liners are so cute that I would definitely want to use them for stuff that I was going to get to show off. Maybe I'd try a new muffin recipe because I love muffins.

    1. My Mom as been asking for Risotto, so I will probably make that for mothers day. Probably with asparagus, tomatoes, shrimp and of course garlic!

    2. For those liners I would probably make this blackberry cupcake recipe I have been wanting to try out. And probably some kind of bran muffin :)

    Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

  5. My plan is to make nothing for mother's day. But in reality, I'll probably be baking a cake for Dave's birthday which is a few days later.

I heart those liners. I want to know where you got them even if I don't win. I LOVE the pirate one. I've been on a blueberry muffin kick lately, but I'm dying to make some coconut muffins; i just can't find a recipe that looks good to me.

  6. I usually make my mom dinner on Mother's Day - probably will do a fish dish with some fresh seasonal spring vegetables. I have a chocolate bread pudding recipe I want to try too. I would make red velvet cupcakes with the baking cups - I've been working to perfect my recipe and they're my family's favorite treat.

  8. What am I going to make for Mothers Day? Dinner reservations!!LOL. As for what I would do with the cupcake liners...I would give them to my daughter for HER mothers day!! She is an excellent baker and she makes dozens and dozens of cupcakes for everyone! She has four children including an autistic son, so she says that baking cupcakes is therapy for her. She would LOVE the colorful cupcake liners.

  10. Those biscuits look divine :) I don't know if I'll be cooking anything for mother's day. I think it's my anniversary too, so you would think that double whammy would get me out of cooking for sure!
The baking liners are so cute...not sure exactly which recipe I'd want to try with them. Maybe some black bottom cupcakes I've seen recently.

  11. Mmmm....buttermilk biscuits. They looks delicious! I just stumbled on your blog a few days ago and I am loving it.

For Mother's day, I'll be making my mother a triple layer lemon berry cake (I'm thinking either blackberries or strawberries for the filling). And those adorable little baking liners look like they would be a ball to make some chocolate cupcakes with, the kind with a nice fluffy marshmallow filling, topped with a nice smooth ganache, those would look so cute in the pink liners! Or fresh strawberry muffins in the red polka dot!

  16. Hmmm. Well I'm hoping my kids make ME something for Mother's day. And since my Mom lives far away, I'll be sending flowers and a card to her.

As far as the cupcake liners? Wow. Well, definitely sour cream apple muffins, and perhaps Guinness cupcakes with Bailey's frosting in the pirate ones, lemon cupcakes with lemon filling in the polka dotted ones. . . Oh, I can think of all KINDS of ways to use those. They are awesome.

    Thanks!

Those are the cutest cupcake liners! I'll be making my mom's favorite blueberry scones for mothers day - but trying a new Cooks Illustrated Recipe where you shave frozen butter into the dough .. we'll see if it works!
